Employees of the North-South Construction Project Have Not Been Paid for One Year

“We, the employees of the 28 organizations working on the North-South Road Corridor investment project, are concerned about the publication titled 'Massive Embezzlement. 52 People May Be Detained in the North-South Case' that was published on September 20 in the 'Zhamanak' newspaper. The publication contains formulations that tarnish the honor, dignity, and reputation of the employees,” stated the workers.

In response to the publication by the 'Zhamanak' newspaper, which stated, ‘...it may become clear that there is no one who has been involved in the construction of this road and has not embezzled funds,’ the employees of the North-South highway construction companies emphasized in a statement made on September 20 that since September 2018, they have not received their due salaries.

“About 850 of us, who are involved in the North-South Road Corridor investment program, have not received our salaries since September 2018. On May 30, the head of the office of Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, Varag Varagyan, met with us and promised to resolve our issue within 45 days. However, 120 days have passed, we have met with Varag Varagyan several times, and he says that the process is underway, but there is still no result,” the employees' statement noted.

Attached to the statement, the employees presented a list of 28 construction subcontractor organizations, the dates of the contracts signed with the employees, and the amount of outstanding debts. The total debt amounts to 2,228,549,216 AMD.
