Deputy Colonel in Intensive Care After Altercation with Governor's Assistant
A scandalous incident took place in the city of Yeghegnadzor, Vayots Dzor province, involving the assistant to the governor of Vayots Dzor, Harutyun Grigoryan. The incident occurred on September 18 around midnight, with the victim being Deputy Colonel Ara Mikayelyan of the Armenian Ministry of Defense. He was severely beaten and transported to the intensive care unit of the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Defense.
The Armenian Times reported that the hospital only revealed that the victim's condition is serious, but did not disclose the specifics of his injuries.
According to Zardand Gabrielyan, the head of the media relations and analysis department of the Armenian Police, the police received a report at 00:08 on September 18 regarding sounds of a dispute near the Bonus shopping center in Yeghegnadzor. Then at 00:20, the Yeghegnadzor Medical Center reported that Ara Mikayelyan had been brought in unconscious.
The investigation team discovered that at approximately 00:15 on the same day, Mikayelyan was transported to the Medical Center from the yard of house number 5 on Arsenyan Street in Yeghegnadzor with cranial trauma and in a comatose state.
The man who voluntarily presented himself was none other than Harutyun Grigoryan, the assistant to the governor of Vayots Dzor, who also has some familial ties with the governor.
The Armenian Times attempted to clarify with the governor, Trdat Sargsyan, whether he was aware of the incident and how closely he was related to it, given reports that he was also present at the scene. In response, Sargsyan stated, "Harutyun Grigoryan is the husband of my uncle's granddaughter. I am aware of the incident. I was not there. An investigation is ongoing, so I cannot say much. I only know that there were drunk military personnel in the yard engaging in a rather heated conversation. Upon returning home, my assistant was involved in the incident."
Sargsyan expressed that his assistant had urged the soldiers not to swear or make noise in the yard, adding, "Afterward, they got to him. The rest will be revealed by the investigation."
