US Becomes World’s Leading Energy Producer, Trump Says
On September 16, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States has become the "number one energy producer in the world." He stated on his Twitter account, "As we have made great strides in energy over the past few years, we are a net exporter of energy, and now we are the number one exporter of energy in the world."
Trump also remarked that the US no longer needs oil and gas from the Middle East. "In fact, we have very little tanker activity there, but we will help our allies," he emphasized.
According to US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, who spoke on September 12, the United States will be able to increase its liquefied natural gas export capacity by 150 percent compared to the end of 2018 due to a new project. He also added that for the first time since the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1961), the US will become a net exporter of energy next year, as reported by TASS.
