Video: Amulsar Construction Can Only Start After May 2020, Grigoryan
The Prime Minister's statement implies that construction at Amulsar can only begin after May 2020, with mining operations scheduled for late 2020.
Today, during a conversation with journalists at the National Assembly, Environment Minister Erik Grigoryan expressed this view, referring to the noise raised around the Amulsar mine.
“The Prime Minister mentioned that the information provided by Elarad, which has been analyzed by our ministry, has been formally presented to the government, and we proposed that inspections be conducted,” he continued.
Grigoryan clarified that the inspection body must conduct studies. He emphasized that they are addressing the points that are subject to nullification under the environmental assessment and have designated inspections to be carried out.
“This means that as a result of the inspections, the grounds we provided will be clarified; if there are violations that can be rectified, then a new environmental assessment will be issued. If they cannot be rectified, then a new environmental assessment will be issued again,” Erik Grigoryan stressed.
Speaking about the statement by environmentalists that the Lydian company has not carried out any work over the past year, thus the environmental assessment should be invalidated, he pointed out: “This is a misinterpretation.”
“The law states that if no activities have been carried out within one year after obtaining the conclusion, it is considered invalid by law. However, activities such as construction, mining, or even digging two holes there also count as activities,” Grigoryan concluded.
