90 Russians Die in Turkey During Tourist Season
During the current tourist season, approximately 90 Russians have died in Turkey, which is linked to the significant influx of vacationers from Russia, said Alexey Erkhov, Russia's ambassador in Ankara, to the RIA Novosti agency.
"Unfortunately, there have been numerous accidents involving tourists from Russia in southern Turkey during this tourist season. As of today, 88 fatal incidents have been recorded, as well as 40 cases of medical evacuations. This is explained by the large number of tourists coming from Russia. Last year, about 6 million citizens from Russia visited Turkey, and this year, according to forecasts, their number has increased," Erkhov stated.
According to him, Russian agencies, along with Turkish partners, are implementing measures to ensure the necessary level of safety for tourists, taking into account the causes of accidents. "Breaking the negative trend is not easy, but we hope that by clearly coordinating joint efforts with local authorities and representatives of the tourist industry, we will be able to overcome this situation," he added.
Additionally, the causes of incidents involving tourists can be explained in a very logical way: "For example, health conditions; we are talking about older individuals who have cardiovascular diseases. They come to Turkey, where, especially in summer, the weather conditions differ significantly from those in Russia. It is hot, muggy, and the humidity level is high. This is why heart attacks, strokes, and many other issues occur," Erkhov explained.
He also noted that recently, there has been an increase in traffic accidents involving tourist buses, as well as issues at border crossings.
