Live: Supporters of Kocharian Hold Protest Again
Supporters of the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, are staging a protest near the Shengavit branch of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, demanding the court to promptly implement the Constitutional Court's decision and release the former president.
It should be noted that on September 4, the Constitutional Court partially accepted Robert Kocharian's application. The higher court recognized the second part of Article 35 of the Criminal Procedure Code as unconstitutional and invalid.
Thus, it was established that the provisions concerning the immunity of individuals were absent among the circumstances that exclude criminal prosecution outlined in the second part of Article 35, which is unconstitutional. Following this decision, Kocharian's lawyers declared that the first-instance court should convene an urgent court hearing and release the second president.
Meanwhile, the prosecution insists that there are no grounds for releasing Robert Kocharian based on the Constitutional Court's decision.
Additionally, it should be noted that the court session concerning the case of the March 1 incident, for which second President Robert Kocharian and other former officials are accused of undermining the constitutional order, is scheduled for September 12. The case has been assigned to Judge Anna Danibekyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.
