VIDEO: We Expect Arman Babajanyan to Return His Mandate – Marukyan
As long as Arman Babajanyan has not clearly stated that he is leaving the "Bright Armenia" faction or resigning his mandate, the leader of the "Bright Armenia" faction Edmon Marukyan will not make statements or comments regarding Babajanyan's announcement about leaving the faction.
"We have wished Mr. Babajanyan success and mentioned that we expect him to return his mandate. This is in a political context. What does it mean that we expect? In a parliamentary governance country, any force collects votes based on its program and ideas. And we received 18 mandates to implement our program; when one mandate decreases, that is a mandate generated by the program," said Edmon Marukyan, adding that Arman Babajanyan is neither the first nor the last in this parliament.
According to Marukyan, the issue they have raised is general. He believes that if this system continues to exist, political parties will not develop in Armenia.
Edmon Marukyan stated that he does not intend to throw mud on their relative to satisfy the expectations of journalists, as personal relationships are one thing, and friendship and political activity are another: "It was expected that there would be a certain change in activities, and Babajanyan has stated that with his announcement. This is a political issue, and I will not allow it to enter the personal realm in any way. Are our political forces 'okay' with participating in elections, coming with some team, and then members leaving the team, and whether this will be considered normal or not? In a parliamentary governance country, the locomotive force is the party," Marukyan said.
He added that when the National Assembly begins discussions on the Law on Political Parties and the Electoral Code, they will present proposals so that obtaining a mandate through a political force, when there are disagreements, does not harm that force and does not lead to a decrease in mandates when leaving the faction.
The representative assured that no other deputies will leave the faction and that there is no issue of fragmentation in the faction.
