Illegal Logging of 131 Trees: Charges Filed Against 3 Residents
The investigation into the illegal logging and unauthorized transportation of trees in the Lori region by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has concluded, resulting in charges against three individuals.
On December 20, 2018, a forest ranger in the 5th section of the Tumanyan Forestry discovered 15 tree stumps that had been illegally cut. Subsequently, on January 11, 2019, the same ranger found an additional 116 tree stumps in the 5th section of the Stepanavan Forestry, leading to the drafting of forest violation reports.
The comprehensive investigation revealed sufficient evidence that these significant illegal loggings were conducted by residents of the Lori region, born in 1984, 1986, 1987, and 1988. It was specifically established that these individuals illegally cut down a total of 131 trees from various forest areas of the 'Hayantar' state enterprise between November and December 2018 using chainsaws, for the purpose of selling firewood. The processed wood was subsequently transported and sold, resulting in substantial damage amounting to 4,920,000 AMD.
Based on the gathered evidence, one individual, a man born in 1988, has been charged under Article 38-296, part 3 of the RA Criminal Code, while the other two have been charged under Article 296, part 3. The case against them has been separated for further proceedings, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
Since the damage has not been compensated, the investigator has imposed a lien on any immovable and movable property registered in their names.
Furthermore, considering that one of the defendants, a resident born in 1984, is evading investigation, decisions have been made during the pre-trial proceedings to charge him under Article 296, part 3, and Article 38-296, part 3 of the RA Criminal Code, and to select a non-leaving signature as a preventive measure. A search warrant has also been issued for his apprehension.
The investigation of the separated portion continues, with necessary measures being taken to locate him and present him to the investigative body. Instructions have been given to the relevant police department.
