The Parliamentary Committee Gives Positive Conclusion on CSTO Related Draft Laws

The National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee has given a positive conclusion on the draft laws that will allow the heads of government from countries whose legislation provides for it to join the Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

During the session held on September 5, the committee provided a positive conclusion for the bills on ratifying the second protocol for amendments to the charter of the Collective Security Treaty Organization established on October 7, 2002, and the second protocol on amendments to the Collective Security Treaty signed on May 15, 1992.

“In one case, an amendment is made to the treaty, in another, to the charter. The objective is unique: given that constitutional changes have occurred in our country, and previously it was stipulated within the CSTO that the governing body consists of heads of states, there arose a necessity for an amendment allowing the Prime Minister to also participate, if constitutionally provided for,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan.
