Stabbing Under the Influence of Alcohol

The investigation into the stabbing incident involving a 21-year-old man in Yerevan has been completed by the Arabkir Division of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. The Investigative Committee reports that a 32-year-old man has been charged.

As a result of investigative and procedural actions conducted during the pre-trial proceedings, several circumstances and motivations of the incident have been established.

Earlier reports indicated that on May 30, 2019, at a bus stop near a supermarket on Komitas Avenue in Yerevan, a 32-year-old resident, under the influence of alcohol, hurled sexual insults at a girl standing at the bus stop. When the 21-year-old man intervened by addressing him about the appropriate behavior, the assailant, feeling affronted and driven by a desire for revenge over a trivial reason, acted out of hooliganistic motives, emphasizing his self-perceived superiority. While insulting the victim, he intentionally stabbed the 21-year-old in the chest twice with a sharp piercing-cutting tool, causing life-threatening injuries before fleeing the scene.

Based on sufficient evidence collected, charges have been brought against the 32-year-old suspect under Article 112, Part 2, Point 9 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. He has been taken into custody as a measure of restraint. The completion of the investigation has been announced, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an indictment.
