Government Approved 10% Salary Increase for 38,000 Teachers

As part of today’s decisions made by the government, 1.6 billion drams will be allocated from the budget to increase teachers' salaries. Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan reported that this expenditure has already been included in the budget for next year.

This increase is necessary because salaries have already been rising since September of this year. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked for clarification on whether this pertains to the salary increase for 38,000 teachers. Harutyunyan confirmed that each of them will see a 10% increase in salary.

Regarding layoffs, Harutyunyan insisted that there have not been mass layoffs. Pashinyan stated that it is also essential to ensure that the salary increases are directly related to the improvement of the quality of education.
