720 Million Drams: Government Approves Assistance Amounts for March 1 Victims
During today’s government session, the procedure and amount of assistance to be provided to the victims and families of those affected by the events of March 1-2, 2008 was approved. A total of 720 million drams will be allocated for this purpose.
“30 million drams will be allocated for the heirs of the deceased, 15 million for severe bodily injuries, and 5 million drams for moderate injuries,” said Justice Minister Vahe Badayan.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that this money is not being given as compensation, but rather as assistance to the victims. Compensation decisions, according to Pashinyan, will be made based on the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decisions.
Pashinyan explained that he himself was also involved in those events and that to determine the compensation amounts in a neutral manner, the government will await the ECHR decisions. Meanwhile, these assistance funds will be provided before the ECHR rulings are issued.
