Children in Khabarovsk Reach School by Boat
In the flooded areas of the Khabarovsk Territory of the Russian Federation, rescuers are helping children and their parents reach school by boat on the first day of the school year, according to the regional branch of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports that a state of emergency has been declared in the Khabarovsk Territory and the neighboring Jewish Autonomous Region due to flooding.
Rescuers are assisting children and their parents in reaching schools to participate in festive events by providing boat transport. As long as the waters remain high, rescuers will continue to transport children to school over the water each day, the report states.
The press service of the Far Eastern unit of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has also announced that rescuers have carried children to vehicles that then transported them to school.
