Technical Issues Required Aircraft Change: Clarification from Armenia Airlines
On August 30, dozens of Armenians were unable to return to Armenia from Larnaca Airport in Cyprus, remaining stranded at the airport.
We spoke about the reasons with Nelly Kostandyan, the PR manager of Armenia Airlines, who elaborated on the true causes of the situation.
Kostandyan stated that the flight was chartered, but this had no absolute connection to whether it was chartered or regular. "The priority for the airline was the safe transportation of passengers, which is extremely important to us and a top priority," said Nelly Kostandyan.
"There was a technical issue, and a change in aircraft was necessary, which took a considerable amount of time. Considering the end of the peak travel season, such a volume of flights is not common throughout the year, and it was a very busy period. We replaced the aircraft with a new one, which was the reason for the delay in the flight. All passengers in Larnaca and Yerevan were provided with food and water, as well as the support that could be legally ensured," the airline manager noted.
She also expressed regret for the incident, stating that both the management and employees of the airline made every effort to ensure that the flight took place as quickly as possible.
"We regret the occurrence, but we believe everyone would agree that the safe transportation of passengers is important, even if there is a delay of a few hours. We apologize for the inconvenience caused," Nelly Kostandyan emphasized.
