VIDEO: Incident of Illegal Drug Trafficking at the Iran-Armenia Border

The police have reported that the main department for combating organized crime’s drug trafficking unit received operational information about two men, aged 37 and 27, from Yerevan who traveled in a Lexus vehicle to Meghri for the purpose of importing drugs from Iran.

The information was acted upon with the support of the Syunik regional police department, the Meghri division, the Customs Committee’s anti-smuggling unit, and border guard forces.

On August 28, at 02:26 AM, the Lexus traveling on the Shvanidzor-Meghri road was stopped to verify the identities of the driver and passenger. After confirming the identities of the men from Yerevan, the Lexus was inspected at a border guard checkpoint.

From under the vehicle, behind the front wheel, a box of Iranian-made cigarettes was discovered, containing a white crystalline substance weighing 39.46 grams. According to the 37-year-old from Yerevan, he had the substance with him and claimed he threw it under the vehicle.

On the same day, documents were compiled, and the packaged crystalline substance was transferred to the Meghri police department, where both men from Yerevan were taken into custody. Court-ordered biological, chemical, and toxicological examinations were assigned. An investigation is underway.
