Police Officers Who Obstructed Fundraising for the Protection of Amulsar Face Disciplinary Actions

Members of the Armenian Environmental Front civil initiative and environmental rights defender Anna Shahnazaryan have reported that police officers who obstructed fundraising for the protection of Amulsar have been subjected to disciplinary actions. This information was revealed through a post on Artak Kirakosyan's Facebook page, which included a document regarding the disciplinary measures.

“In connection with the open letter addressed to the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, I inform you that based on the results of the internal investigation conducted by the internal affairs department of the Yerevan Police Directorate, it has been established that a group of officers from the first platoon of the special police unit have failed to fulfill their functional responsibilities, for which they have been subjected to disciplinary actions,” the document provided by the Police states.

It is worth noting that on July 6, from 18:00 to 21:00, Anna Shahnazaryan, along with supporters, carried out a fundraising campaign for the protection of Amulsar in the city of Yerevan. The Armenian Environmental Front civil initiative posted on its Facebook page that around 20:50, police officers approached Shahnazaryan and demanded that she present permission from the municipality to conduct the fundraising, as well as a contract with the municipality and a seal for the fundraising box from the municipality.

The police officers declined to indicate what legal grounds they had for making such demands. Subsequently, they forcibly transported Anna Shahnazaryan to the Central Police Department, where they informed her that they were preparing materials on suspicion of fraud. Shahnazaryan was released around 23:00.
