Fortune Teller Asks Client for 60,000 Dram to Help Avoid Accident
The investigative department of the Mashtots Police Station is preparing materials regarding a fraud case that occurred in the Ararat region. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, a 48-year-old resident of Artashat, Gayane H., filed a complaint with the Masis Police Station yesterday, on August 27. She reported that she had visited a fortune teller in Marmarashen village and paid him 10,000 dram. After this, the fortune teller informed her that she needed to pay an additional 60,000 dram for his assistance in ensuring that she would not be involved in an accident.
According to G. Shamshyan's sources, Gayane H. told the police that she was currently at the fortune teller's house and was being pressured to give more money, while her daughter allegedly threatened to stab the fortune teller in the stomach.
A police operational group led by community police officer Bukushyan arrived at the scene and discovered that Laura M., a 52-year-old resident of 31st street in Marmarashen village, had exploited Gayane H.'s trust under the pretext of fortune telling and had fraudulently taken 66,000 dram from her.
