Video: Approximately 60 Hectares of Vegetation Burning in Syunik Province
The fire suppression efforts continue for the blaze that erupted on August 20 at around 11:00 AM near the reservoir in Geghi village, Syunik Province. Two operational groups from the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ regional rescue department and two firefighting units are present at the scene.
A total of 35 firefighters, 30 employees from the Kapan branch of the Hayantar State Non-Commercial Organization, 20 staff members from the Zangezur Biosphere Complex, and 10 local residents are participating in the firefighting operations. Approximately 50-60 hectares of grassland, juniper, oak trees, and shrubs are ablaze.
As of August 21 at 14:26, the firefighting efforts were paused, with a shift established involving 5 firefighters, 5 employees from the Kapan branch of Hayantar, and 5 staff members from the Zangezur Biosphere Complex. On August 22 at 5:00 AM, firefighting activities resumed. A total of 35 firefighters, 20 employees from the Kapan branch of Hayantar, 20 staff from the Zangezur Biosphere Complex, and 10 local residents are actively engaged in the firefighting efforts.
Currently, approximately 100 hectares of grassland, juniper, oak trees, and bushes are reported to be burning. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
