Group Flees Upon Seeing Police; One Arrested
A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of illegally acquiring, possessing, and carrying a weapon.
The Investigation Committee of the Republic of Armenia’s Yerevan and Nubarashen administrative districts is conducting necessary investigative and procedural actions to clarify the circumstances surrounding the illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of a weapon by a 34-year-old resident of the town of Byureghavan. The individual has been detained.
According to preliminary data, on August 15, 2019, around 11:00 PM, a group of individuals gathered at 1 Vardanyan Street in Yerevan noticed an approaching operational group and attempted to flee. During their escape, one of them pulled out an object resembling a pistol from his waistband and threw it on the ground.
A criminal case has been initiated within the framework of Article 235, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia at the Investigation Division of Yerevan and Nubarashen. The identity of the man who threw the object resembling a firearm, a resident of Byureghavan born in 1985, has been established, and he has been arrested.
A series of investigative actions have been carried out, including an examination of the crime scene, during which two objects resembling pistols were seized. These were found to be loaded 9mm caliber pistols, containing 8 and 7 cartridges respectively, as well as a knife with a secret lock marked “Magnum.”
In order to clarify circumstances of significant importance to the criminal case, several expert examinations have been appointed. Extensive and urgent investigative and procedural actions are underway, including operational and investigative measures aimed at identifying the individual(s) who illegally acquired and possessed the weapons, specifically the factory-numberless “PM” type pistols and the 9mm military cartridges amounting to 7 and 8 rounds respectively.
The investigation is ongoing.
