Health Ministry Rejects Application for Treatment Abroad: April War Participant

The government has rejected the application of April War participant Hayk Sekhliyan to continue treatment abroad. In a conversation with NEWS.am, he stated that the Health Ministry justified the rejection by claiming that there was no 100% guarantee from Germany that he would be able to walk.

Hayk considered such reasoning from the Ministry to be baseless. “If we go to any doctor now and say that a routine tonsil surgery needs to be performed, who can guarantee 100% success? In the world of medicine, nothing is absolutely 100%, yet that is what they want,” he said.

According to him, a consultant to the Prime Minister has been dealing with his case for about two months. “After I raised the issue in the media, it was the Prime Minister's advisor who called. In the past month and a half, there has always been communication with them; they have said that the papers are at this stage, that stage,” Hayk mentioned.

He noted that friends have opened a bank account in his name, which currently has $8,619 accumulated, while the surgery costs €35,000.

We previously reported that 33-year-old Hayk Sekhliyan, a participant in the April War, urgently needs treatment. His health condition is deteriorating, and the treatment can only be conducted abroad. “Last year, when a fragment was one centimeter away from my spinal cord, doctors avoided intervention and advised me to go to Switzerland. My condition is getting worse, and going even a day earlier is to my benefit,” Hayk said.

He also mentioned that even after his injury, he worked and paid the rent and family expenses. Hayk’s friends have opened a joint account in his name to collect funds and transfer him abroad as soon as possible.

Hayk Sekhliyan told NEWS.am that he met with Prime Minister's advisor Mesrop Arakelyan, and he provided the German translation of his medical documents and MRI scans to Mesrop. “I gave it to them to send to Germany so that the doctors there could assess what they can do,” he stated.
