‘Zhoghovurd’: The Timeline for Ratification of the Istanbul Convention is Revealed
‘Zhoghovurd’ newspaper reports: Despite the fact that the government has not yet applied to the Constitutional Court to determine the constitutionality of the Council of Europe’s convention on ‘Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence’, nor has it received the conclusion from the Venice Commission, it turns out that even timelines have been outlined for the ratification of the well-known Istanbul Convention.
Specifically, by a decision dated May 16 of this year, the government of Armenia approved a list of measures to ensure the implementation of the action program for the years 2019-2023, and in this program, the upcoming actions are presented, and their deadlines are set.
According to information obtained by the newspaper from that draft, the implementation deadline for the measures has been outlined for the second decade of September. In this case, the information and comments suggesting that the government is in no hurry to ratify the convention become invalid, as the actual deadline has long been set.
