Lawsuit Filed Against the Republican Party Over Property Dispute on Melik-Adamyan Street
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that the descendants of cognac producer Hambardzum Soghomonyan have filed a lawsuit against the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), seeking to annul a sales agreement signed in 2001 and to compensate for the market value of their property.
The matter involves the purchase of an old building located next to the "Old Yerevan" hotel, which was bought by the RPA, allegedly taking advantage of its position, for 5 million 500 thousand drams for an area of 460 square meters. The building was subsequently dismantled, and an office for Melik-Adamyan Street was constructed in its place.
Vahram Baghdasaryan, a member of the RPA governing body, stated yesterday that the party is not concerned about the lawsuit and is confident that all actions taken were legal. He mentioned that they have not yet been notified about the lawsuit.
Some speculate that this lawsuit may indicate an attempt by the authorities to seize the RPA's building on Melik-Adamyan Street.
