Sasun Mikayelyan Caught Between Two Stones Due to Istanbul Convention

According to the newspaper 'Iravunk', although the members of the ruling 'My Step' faction are being instructed not to express their opposition to the ratification of the infamous Istanbul Convention and to 'sit back quietly' if they are against it, the situation is getting out of control. It is no longer just a political issue; it has become a litmus test. No one wants to have the stigma of supporting the Convention branded on their forehead. Being for or against the Convention is taking on characteristics of national or anti-national identity, regardless of geopolitical preferences and tastes.

Taking all this into account, according to information obtained by 'Iravunk', the president of the Youth Union of Armenia and member of the 'My Step' faction in the National Assembly, Sasun Mikayelyan, has found himself caught between two stones. On one hand, he assures his circle that he will go and join the petition against the Convention; on the other hand, he is trying to stall for time with various excuses. Whether Mikayelyan will find enough independence to defy his political team once again and save face remains to be seen.
