Charges Filed for Sexual Violent Acts Against 10-Year-Old Girl by Friend's Father

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated a criminal case in the Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts regarding the commission of sexual violent acts against a girl under the age of 14. One individual has been arrested.

According to the Investigative Committee, preliminary data indicates that on July 20, 2019, a resident of Yerevan contacted the Mashtots Police Department, reporting that her daughter's friend’s father, born in 1985, had locked himself in a room with the 10-year-old girl.

On the same day, the citizen filed a report with the Mashtots Police regarding sexual acts of a perverse nature committed against her daughter, born in 2009, by her friend's father.

Following the incident, a criminal case has been initiated by the Investigative Committee under Article 139, Part 3, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. On July 21, 2019, the individual suspected of committing the alleged crime voluntarily presented himself to the Mashtots Police Department and was arrested on suspicion of committing sexual violent acts against a girl under 14 years of age.

Based on sufficient evidence obtained, the man, born in 1985, has been charged under Article 139, Part 3, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code. The measure of restraint applied to him is imprisonment.

Due to the nature of the factual data obtained in the criminal case, no further details are to be published. The statement urged representatives of the media to refrain from publishing identifying data of the participants of the proceedings, including the victim and the accused, and information about their specific places of residence, in consideration of the interests of the minor.
