106 Apartments to be Transferred as Ownership Gifts to 100 Families

In an effort to address housing issues for the population, the government has made changes and additions to the procedure for the donation of residential areas attached to state administrative institutions, established by a decree dated March 24, 2011. According to this decision, 106 residential areas will be handed over to residents with the right of ownership.

Surent Papikyan, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, stated that the project sets the following condition for the donation of the rooms occupied by residents in the dormitory areas under the authority of state administrative institutions: residential areas will be provided as a donation to citizens of the Republic of Armenia who are registered in the relevant area and have been actually residing there until December 1, 2017, with the exception of residents of border communities, for whom there is no limitation on the actual period of residence. Those who have never acquired housing or received financial assistance for the purchase of housing through state support, as well as those who do not own real estate, are also eligible.

The proposed amendment includes 106 rooms subject to donation, which will be allocated to 100 families consisting of 231 individuals. The signing of donation contracts is expected to occur within one year.

Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan noted that this is a good decision to free people from the struggles of acquiring housing, as these apartments are de facto being transferred into ownership for those who actually reside there.
