We Must Understand Why Farmers Are Abandoning Agriculture: Vruyr Artsruni
The spokesperson for the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body, Vruyr Artsruni, wrote on his Facebook page: "In order for farmers to live in their villages and not cut down trees, agriculture must develop. To facilitate the growth of agriculture, it is crucial to deeply understand why farmers are abandoning it, exploring both the psychological and economic reasons behind this phenomenon.
Furthermore, we need to have a vision for the future of agriculture that outlines what kind of agriculture we envision in Armenia, which can first address the issues identified above. For this, it is necessary to have a clear vision for Armenia’s future, including the role and place of agriculture in that envisioned Armenia. Situational measures, such as providing a cow or barn to farmers through government subsidies without understanding why farmers previously abandoned their cows and barns, will yield no results."
