27-Year-Old Arrested on Suspicions of Attempted Murder of Parents

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an investigation to clarify all circumstances surrounding a 27-year-old's attempt to murder his parents.

According to the Investigative Committee, on July 19, 2019, at 03:35 AM, a report was received by the Emergency Service of the police in Erebuni stating that a resident of the Nor-Aresh district had reported that his son was threatening him with a knife. On the same day, the police received another call from an unknown citizen reporting a stabbing incident in one of the houses in Nor-Aresh. Additionally, a report was received from medical centers confirming that two individuals—a man born in 1960 and a woman born in 1958—had been brought in with knife wounds, along with a 1992-born young man who admitted to self-harm.

A criminal case has been initiated by the Erebuni and Nubarashen Investigation Department under Point 1 of Part 2 of Article 34-104 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Given the extensive nature of the case and the necessity for numerous investigative actions, a decision was made to form a investigative group.

The 60-year-old woman and 59-year-old man have been recognized as victims. Urgent investigative actions have revealed several details about the incident. Specifically, it has been determined that the individuals transferred to the medical center are family members. Preliminary data suggest that on the night of July 19, during an argument over domestic issues in one of the houses in Nor-Aresh, the 27-year-old son first stabbed his mother (born in 1958) and then his father (born in 1960), after which he attempted self-harm.

The 60-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries. During the pre-investigation, numerous urgent investigative measures were taken, including an examination of the body, revealing multiple stab wounds. Witnesses were interrogated, the crime scene was examined, and the knife used in the crime along with blood-like traces was found. Samples were collected, and the emergency call logs of the medical center were scrutinized. The clothing worn by the victims at the time of the incident has been confiscated. To clarify circumstances of significant relevance in the criminal case, forensic, forensic medical, and genetic examinations have been ordered.

The 27-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder his parents. The investigation is ongoing.
