Child Injured in Hit-and-Run Dies, Attempts Made for Revenge: Details
In Yerevan, on July 18, a fatal hit-and-run incident occurred, as reported by Shamshyan.com. Between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM, 51-year-old Vardan E. struck 13-year-old Arpine G. while driving his Mercedes vehicle with license plate 35 AS 299. The accident took place at a crosswalk along Yerevan Highway, next to the Holy Resurrection Church.
The child who was hit died on the spot. The driver did not flee the scene. A criminal case has been initiated based on the characteristics of Article 242, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code.
According to sources, several young people living near the incident site attempted to take revenge on the driver, but traffic police and investigators managed to escort the driver away from the scene. Meanwhile, angry residents vandalized the vehicle with stones, breaking not only the windshield but also the rear and side windows, and kicked the car as well.
The operational group of the Malatya division of the police is undertaking necessary operational measures to identify those individuals who damaged the vehicle with stones and by kicking it.
