Constitutional Court Suspends Proceedings in Kocharyan Case and Appeals to ECHR and Venice Commission
The Constitutional Court has issued a statement announcing the decision to suspend the proceedings regarding the compliance of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia with the Constitution, based on the applications of the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court and Robert Kocharyan.
“On July 18 of this year, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia adopted procedural decisions regarding the appeals of the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court and Robert Kocharyan to request an advisory opinion from the European Court of Human Rights and the Venice Commission on the compliance of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia with the Constitution. Consequently, until the responses are received, the proceedings on the aforementioned cases will be suspended under Article 56, Part 1, Clause 5 of the Constitutional Law on the Constitutional Court,” the statement reads.
