VIDEO: Just Days Ago We Rescued a Woman from Her Abusive Husband, Says Zohrapyan

The law on "Preventing Domestic Violence" was adopted 1.5 years ago, but no significant differences have been observed in the reports of violence cases at the police station. The reason behind this is the negative stereotype that domestic violence issues should not be made public. This was reported today by Prosperous Armenia Party MP Naira Zohrapyan in the National Assembly.

“Just days ago, we rescued a woman from her husband, who has been abusing her for years. Incidentally, this occurred in the presence of their adult son, who was defending his father. We transported her to a safe place. For years, this woman felt uncomfortable approaching law enforcement. In other words, it was purely the threat to her life that forced her to contact us,” Zohrapyan stated.

Her remarks were echoed by Armenia's Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan, who said that since the adoption of the law, the number of people reaching out for help has slightly increased, but the problem persists. Tatoyan noted that they are currently working with law enforcement agencies.
