Direct: Shoreline Operators of Lake Sevan Block Yerevan-Sevan Highway

Shoreline operators of Lake Sevan staged a protest this morning in front of the Sevan city hall and later had a brief meeting with Gegharkunik region governor Gnel Sanosyan and Sevan mayor Sargis Muradyan.

The officials stated that they would communicate with the heads of relevant government agencies and inform the businesses about it. Following the meeting, the operators expressed their concerns that due to the green algae bloom, tourists are not visiting the lake, thus not paying taxes. At the same time, the ministries have reported that swimming in Sevan is dangerous, which the operators strongly dispute. They demand that the ministers clarify that swimming in Lake Sevan is safe.

As a result, they decided to block the Yerevan-Sevan road.
