School Principal Demanded $1000 for Hiring in the School

The investigation by the Investigative Committee of Armenia's Armavir region has concluded regarding a case of apparent bribery involving the misuse of official position. Charges have been brought against three residents of the Armavir region.

According to data acquired during the pre-trial proceedings, the principal of the middle school in the village of Berkashat, being an official, agreed with a resident born in 1972 to demand a large bribe of 1000 USD, equivalent to 487,290 AMD, for hiring his daughter as a history and social studies teacher at the same school.

On November 13, 2017, the daughter of the man born in 1972 was hired at the school, and her husband was supposed to transfer the agreed sum to the school principal. In January 2018, the husband met with the school principal and paid a bribe of 200,000 AMD, but refused to pay the remaining amount later.

Based on sufficient evidence, the school principal has been charged under the third part of Article 311 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, while the father-in-law and husband of the woman have been charged under the second part of Article 312. As a preventive measure, a signature not to leave has been selected for them.

The investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent with an accusatory conclusion to the prosecutor overseeing the legality of the pre-trial investigation.
