High-profile criminal cases are being investigated. Arthur Davtyan has taken action.
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that for some time now, there has been considerable discussion about the preliminary investigation bodies handling several high-profile criminal cases without making specific progress.
According to information circulated within the law enforcement system, either the law enforcement agencies are investigating the cases secretly, considering that the defendants are prepared to compensate the state for damages and leave quietly, or certain officials involved in the cases are currently absent from the country, and efforts are being made to locate them.
Such situations have confronted investigators with dilemmas, leaving them uncertain whether to suspend or close the initiated cases.
Thus, according to the information received by the newspaper "Zhoghovurd," the Prosecutor General of Armenia, Arthur Davtyan, recently held a meeting with the heads of preliminary investigation bodies, urging them to issue directives to the investigative department to consolidate the criminal cases in their possession and make specific decisions.
The issue arises from the fact that after the revolution, a number of crimes were proclaimed with great fanfare, but their uncovering has now become a burden for investigators.
To clarify the information regarding the prosecutor's meeting, "Zhoghovurd" turned to the public relations department of the Prosecutor General's Office, which responded that "there has been no closed or secret meeting of any kind with the leaders of the preliminary investigation bodies, and this information does not reflect reality. However, during various formats of the working meetings between the Prosecutor General and the heads of preliminary investigation bodies, as well as during the joint discussions of specific criminal cases by the supervising prosecutor and investigator, the necessity of ensuring the entirety of investigative and procedural actions and completing investigations within reasonable time frames is consistently raised. Necessary measures of prosecutorial influence are also applied for these purposes."
Thus, our information regarding the meeting motivated by the need to complete the ongoing cases within reasonable time frames was confirmed. Results are awaited.
