Fact. Drivers Have Been Deceived. 4000 Cars Without License Plates
The newspaper "Fact" reports: "A few days ago, in an interview with "Fact", Davit Pedanyan, Vice President of the 'Driver's Company', expressed concern that cars without license plates can often be seen on the streets. The issue is that previously, there was a police point at the customs where imported cars were issued temporary transit license plates, which were necessary for reaching the traffic police registration unit to obtain their legal license plates. However, police points have now been removed from customs. Cars are cleared through customs, but transit numbers are not issued. Instead, drivers are given a paper stating that the vehicle owner is obligated to clear the vehicle within the specified timeframe.
Pedanyan informed "Fact" that their organization has learned from the bureau of auto insurers that in the first six months of this year, insurance has been provided for 50-60 thousand vehicles, of which 4000 are without license plates, based on their VIN codes. "It turns out that 4000 cars have been operating or are operating on the streets without license plates. Perhaps some of the drivers, being well aware of the law, did not use their vehicle but did insure it. Besides that, the drivers of the vehicles insured without license plates are most likely unaware of the law, and they have been misled by the customs inspection, where they were told that they could drive their car with the paper provided, which is incorrect; it constitutes a violation and implies a fine of 200,000 drams. The paper stating that the driver must clear the vehicle and obtain a license plate within 15 days has no basis for the road police. It is only meant to inform the driver," said Pedanyan, adding that the raised issue has not been resolved. "
