Hail the Size of a Chicken Egg in Marmik Village Causes Road Closure
Today, June 28, an emergency situation has arisen in the Marmik village of the Kotayk region. Around 15:30, a powerful hailstorm wreaked havoc in the village. Hail the size of chicken eggs has destroyed all cultivated areas, roofs of houses, parked cars in the yards, and the crops of potatoes, cabbages, beans, onions, wheat, and cucumbers that the villagers painstakingly grew have been leveled to the ground.
According to shamshyan.com, taking into account numerous deceits from previous years, the villagers were forced to close the highway section from Hrazdan to Hankavan passing through Marmik village. They demand that the governor and relevant authorities personally come to the village and witness the damage caused by the hailstorm.
The media reports that Kotayk Governor Romanos Petrosyan urged the villagers to open the road, but they responded: “We have fought with the land from morning until evening, we have cultivated it, and we were about to harvest the village produce in a few days, but the hailstorm leveled our work in 40 minutes. Such cases have occurred in previous years as well, and we have suffered losses each time; every time officials come, promise to solve the problem, but they deceive us and leave. We would like to believe that this government representative—the governor, will not provide us with a soft pillow like his predecessors. Now we want to believe this government will remove the thorn from our fingers, not dress us in a log like the previous ones. Let them know that if the village stands, it will break the log.”
“We don’t ask for much, we understand that we are powerless against nature, but at least humanly, the government could help us. At least resolve the issues of roofs, settle compensation for damages, or else the entire village is under debt. If they do not help us now, we will not be waiting for the arrival of government officials, but for the banks to come with ‘This mountain is mine, this house is mine.’”
Governor R. Petrosyan informed the villagers that a commission will visit the village tomorrow morning, conduct on-site examinations, take measurements, and present them to the government. The government, led by the Prime Minister, will allocate funds from the reserve fund.
