Protesters from Yeghvard Have Simply Occupied Private Territory and Refuse to Leave: Kotayk Governor

The residents of Yeghvard protesting in front of the government have simply occupied a private production area and are now unwilling to vacate it. This was stated today by Kotayk Governor Romanos Petrosyan to journalists.

According to him, they have offered the residents numerous options to free the private property, as the owner demands that they vacate their own territory. However, the residents, according to Petrosyan, have not agreed to compromise even when offered the option of payment for several months of rent.

Petrosyan emphasized that these areas must be vacated; however, the company has given the residents some time, through the governor's mediation, to clear the area. He mentioned that there has been no incident of violence, and the police have only attempted to remove the residents from the private property using their own means.

The governor stated that the behavior of these residents is unacceptable when they gather in front of the government demanding, 'either give us a house, or we will not leave.' He noted that there are many homeless families in the region. He cited examples of families that have occupied state buildings, stating that they are considering the situation of such families and are not evicting them.
