Video: Residents of Lukashin in Armavir Province Block Road as Hail Causes Over 13 Million Dram Damage
A severe hailstorm hit the Armavir Province yesterday, impacting the village of Lukashin. A local resident reported that the hail lasted approximately 13 minutes, resulting in complete destruction of their crops.
One villager mentioned suffering damages of up to 13 million drams, while another incurred losses of 5 million drams, with more residents likely facing similar fates. The storm caused significant harm to watermelon and potato fields, as well as vineyards and apricot orchards.
In response to the calamity, residents of Lukashin have blocked the Gyumri-Yerevan highway to draw attention to their plight, demanding a meeting with the regional governor and compensation for their losses. According to a resident, police have approached them during the protest. Village mayor Karen Mkrtchyan is also present with the residents.
This marks the second hail incident in Lukashin in recent months, with the first recorded just a month ago. The resident detailed that anti-hail stations had been operational the day before but did so too late—only 15 minutes prior—and were unable to prevent the hail damage. The village mayor is reportedly seeking solutions to assist affected residents.
