Venice Commission on Developments Related to the Constitutional Court of Armenia
The Venice Commission has addressed the recent developments surrounding the Constitutional Court of Armenia and the public statements regarding its current members during its plenary session. This information is derived from the minutes of the meeting.
"The Commission has been informed about the latest developments regarding the Constitutional Court in Armenia, including public statements concerning its members. The Commission has requested the president to closely monitor the situation and make a statement if necessary. An urgent opinion on Armenia's judicial code will be prepared and sent to the relevant authorities before the upcoming plenary session in October," the minutes state.
It is worth recalling that during the oath-taking ceremony of a Constitutional Court judge on June 20, Vahe Grigoryan noted that taking the oath as the only judge entering the Constitutional Court at this moment, he assumes the exercise of the powers and responsibilities of the president of the Constitutional Court. This statement has sparked heated discussions among legal experts, constitutionalists, and political forces.
