Regarding security, peacekeeping forces can be deployed in the region, Mamedyarov says
“During the negotiations held in Washington, the co-chairs of the Minsk Group reiterated the previously discussed documents,” said Elmar Mamedyarov, the head of Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, commenting on the meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on June 20.
As reported by the Turan agency, the Azerbaijani foreign minister stated that they are currently working on the basis of the statement published by the co-chairs on March 9. He emphasized that the document should be seriously studied, and the sides have agreed that the co-chairs will propose a new meeting for the ministers in 2 to 3 months.
“It is not necessarily the case that peace should be restored along the contact line and new negotiations should be conducted. We need to conduct substantive talks. Right now, we are working based on the statement published by the co-chairs on March 9. We agree with some provisions of that document and disagree with others,” Mamedyarov noted, asserting that according to that statement, Armenian troops must withdraw from Azerbaijani territories, and everything else can be determined thereafter.
“The Armenian side consistently raises issues regarding security and the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. Regarding security, peacekeeping forces can be deployed in the region. The co-chairs should work in that direction,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister declared.
