Istanbul's New Mayor Calls for Respect Towards Armenians
Ekrem İmamoğlu, the representative of Turkey's opposition Republican People's Party, has been elected as the new mayor of Istanbul. Following his victory, he stated, “In this city, we must embrace and respect Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, Jews, and representatives of all other nations. We will build democracy and establish justice in this city.”
In his speech, he also emphasized that the concept of “national minority” should not exist in Istanbul, and all residents of the city, regardless of their ethnic background, should have equal rights.
