Furious Debates at PACE: Naira Zohrabyan from Strasbourg
Member of the National Assembly's Prosperous Armenia faction, Naira Zohrabyan, has posted on her Facebook page: “Furious debates at PACE. Right now, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is discussing the issue of restoring the voting rights of the Russian delegation. For three years, Russia has been deprived of its voting rights in PACE and has not participated in the Assembly's activities. Here, at this moment, there are Shakespearean fervent debates: Delegates from Ukraine, Georgia, Britain, and several other countries are prepared to take extreme measures if the Assembly restores Russia's voting rights.
Meanwhile, the issue is quite simple—by expelling Russia from the Council of Europe and depriving nearly 150 million citizens of their rights to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights and other remaining institutions of the Council, what problem are we solving? Ultimately, one of the fundamental values of the Council of Europe is dialogue, and breaking this dialogue irreversibly will open a Pandora's box. The vote, barring any unforeseen circumstances, is expected to take place at midnight.”
