Vetting Grant from Europe: EU to Provide Approximately $17 Million for Judicial Reforms
According to "Fact" newspaper reports, approximately $17 million will soon be allocated from the EU to ensure reforms in the judicial system. A government source indicated that delays related to vetting and transitional justice are due to the holdup in the disbursement of these funds.
According to the same sources, there is a possibility of attracting an additional $13 million towards reforms in this sector, possibly in the form of highly favorable loans. Our source noted that it is possible that the allocation of these funds may also lead to increases in judges' salaries.
Incidentally, yesterday in the National Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that we cannot have a truly independent judicial system in Armenia without increasing judges' salaries to 2.5-3 million drams, but this needs to be done with the support of our international donor partners.
