National Security Service Discovers Gang Member Who is a Citizen of Armenia

As a result of operational data received by the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia, a 56-year-old citizen of Armenia who has been on international wanted list since 2001 has been discovered, the NSS press center reports.

From December 2000 to October 2001, a stable armed group consisting of 9 individuals operated within the territory of Armenia. This gang regularly attacked currency exchange points, gas stations, and shops, stealing various amounts of money under the threat of murder, and at times committing murder to achieve their goals.

As a result of actions taken by law enforcement authorities, the gang was neutralized. A court ruling in this criminal case sentenced 5 individuals to imprisonment, while 4 others fled. One of the fugitives was discovered in 2009, and the proceedings regarding the other three were suspended with an international wanted notice declared.

Days ago, NSS employees received operational data indicating that one of the aforementioned three individuals, T.K., previously convicted several times, was using the biometric data of another person with mental health issues to forge a passport photo. Subsequently, based on the falsified document, he obtained a Ukrainian passport, which allowed him free movement into the territory of the Republic of Armenia.

On June 21, 2019, as a result of extensive operational and investigative measures undertaken by NSS employees, the member of the aforementioned gang on the international wanted list was discovered and brought to the NSS administrative building.

Notice: The suspect or accused of the alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia, based on a court decision that has entered into legal force.
