VIDEO: Hayk Alumnyan Files Complaint to the Prosecutor General

Hayk Alumnyan, a member of former President Robert Kocharyan's defense team, today submitted a complaint to the Prosecutor General, requesting the initiation of a criminal case. The reason for submitting the complaint to the Prosecutor General stems from several statements made by former Military Prosecutor of Armenia Gagik Jhangiryan during an interview.

In a meeting with journalists today, Alumnyan specified that Jhangiryan stated in his interview that the Constitutional Court is intentionally delaying the decision in the case of Robert Kocharyan and others, thereby allowing the Court of Appeal to correct the errors of the first instance court.

“From what he said, it implies that the Constitutional Court is giving the general jurisdiction courts a chance to correct the mistake, for the Court of Appeal to override the decision of the first instance court. If this is correct, then we are talking about previously planned judicial acts. This means that Mr. Jhangiryan is already aware of what the Constitutional Court will do,” Alumnyan presented.

He also noted that Jhangiryan mentioned he would not open the quotation marks. “No one should possess such information,” he emphasized.

It should be recalled that the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, under the presidency of Judge Davit Grigoryan, had decided to suspend the proceedings in the March 1 case and referred the matter to the Constitutional Court. The Court accepted the case for consideration and decided to extend the timeframe for discussing the issue by one month.

Alumnyan also quoted another statement from Jhangiryan: “The Constitutional Court will not review this case with this composition,” adding, “It needs to be understood that changes are anticipated in the Constitutional Court. There were far-reaching statements, meaning that the further actions of at least two judicial instances were known to Mr. Jhangiryan.”

According to him, Jhangiryan pointed out circumstances indicating pressures on the courts.
