Jhoghovurd: Gradually, Farmers Are Being Pushed Out of Agriculture
Livestock farming in Armenia has experienced a significant decline, with official statistics indicating a 3.4% drop in the first quarter. Additionally, there has been a decrease in meat production volumes during the first four months of this year. According to the daily newspaper 'Jhoghovurd', data from the National Statistical Committee of Armenia reveals that beef production has fallen by 4.9%, pork by 17.8%, and sheep meat by 10.9%.
Farmers state that the rising cost of animal feed forced many to slaughter their livestock last year. However, due to lack of funds, they have been unable to replenish the numbers of slaughtered animals, which has led to a decrease in both livestock and meat production across the republic. To meet the demand, Belarusian meat products are currently being sold in the domestic market. Thus, step by step, farmers are being pushed out of agriculture,” reports the newspaper.
