Constitutional Court Extends Deadline for Examining Judge's Application in Kocharyan Case

The Constitutional Court has extended the deadline for the preliminary examination of the application submitted by Judge Davit Grigoryan of the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court regarding the suspension of the trial concerning the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, and others. This was announced to NEWS.am by Edgar Ghazaryan, the head of the Constitutional Court's staff.

Judge Hrayr Tovmasyan of the Constitutional Court decided, in accordance with point 29 of the court's procedures, to extend the deadline for the preliminary examination of the application, which was registered on May 20, 2019, until July 9, 2019, for the purpose of conducting further investigations.

It is noteworthy that on May 20, Judge Davit Grigoryan had ruled to suspend the proceedings regarding Kocharyan and others and to refer the question of the constitutionality of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (overthrowing the constitutional order) to the Constitutional Court. Additionally, the court noted that Kocharyan benefits from the guarantees of functional immunity stipulated by the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia for former presidents.
