Detention of Vahagn Gevorgyan's Supporters: Gagik Tsarukyan's Party Members at Police Station
People have been detained from the headquarters of mayoral candidate Vahagn Gevorgyan. This message reached the members of the National Assembly from the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), who are currently at the police station attempting to meet with the chief of police in Abovyan.
According to BHK MP Iveta Tonoyan, they are waiting for the police chief in Abovyan to understand why Vahagn Gevorgyan's supporters have been detained. “At this moment, we have information about 4-5 detainees. There was an intention to search these people’s vehicles without the presence of legal representatives, and we prohibited the execution of this action. Now we are waiting for further developments; the police chief is likely approaching, and we will understand on what grounds the detentions were made,” she said.
BHK MP Gevorg Petrosyan also mentioned that he has already alerted the Human Rights Defender (HRD). “I have informed the HRD, and they promised that staff from the rapid response unit would come. We will see what happened and why our police are so agitated that they resort to such measures. The good old practices continue; in any case, no illegal act was committed by those detained, they were simply taken from the street, and now we are awaiting explanations from the police chief,” he said.
It should be noted that BHK MPs Iveta Tonoyan, Gevorg Petrosyan, Naira Zohrabyan, Arman Abovyan, Vahe Enfiajyan, and Mikael Melkumyan met with the police chief of Abovyan, and they are currently trying to clarify the reasons for the detention of the supporters of the mayoral candidate.
