Bako Sahakyan Comments on Pashinyan's Statement

“If there are doubts, it is important to discuss them in an atmosphere of mutual respect,” said Bako Sahakyan, the President of the Republic of Artsakh, responding to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement regarding "treacherous forces" in a news briefing with journalists.

- Today, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned during a press briefing that the leadership of Artsakh was not aware of the details of the negotiation process during the previous administrations. Was the official Stepanakert not informed about these details?

- You know, when Nikol Pashinyan took over the Prime Minister's office of the Republic of Armenia, the negotiation process was among the primary issues that were discussed between us. I can characterize these discussions as honest and principled, as I have repeatedly stated publicly.

Recently, the Prime Minister of Armenia provided us with certain documents regarding the negotiation process. In turn, we have shared a package of documents related to the negotiation process with the Prime Minister of Armenia.

In general, both now and in the past, before and after negotiations with Azerbaijan, the authorities of the Republic of Armenia kept the Artsakh leadership informed about the discussed issues and the latest developments.

In general, I want to emphasize that the best and perhaps the only way to prevent speculation is to restore the full format of discussions with the direct participation of Artsakh.

- Prime Minister Pashinyan also stated that there are certain traitors and representatives of the Artsakh leadership who encourage their aides to post on Facebook that Pashinyan is selling lands. What do you say about this?

- I have already been asked similar questions, particularly during a meeting with members of the “My Step” faction in the National Assembly of Armenia and journalists on May 20 this year. I said that if there are traitors, they will be punished, and if anyone knows specific individuals and proven facts of their conspiracies, let them inform us, and we will take appropriate measures.

One of our most important achievements is our unity, and I consider any attempt to undermine it unacceptable—whether in Artsakh, Armenia, or the Diaspora. I find the conspiratorial attitude completely unacceptable. If there are doubts or distrust regarding a particular phenomenon, person, or official, I find it important to discuss all these issues in an atmosphere of mutual respect and come to a common understanding. We have one homeland, and it is our duty to do everything we can to preserve its unity.
