Will Putin-Aliyev-Pashinyan Meeting Take Place in St. Petersburg?
The newspaper "Iravunk" reports: "As is known, the spokesperson for the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, announced recently that Prime Minister Pashinyan will participate in the international economic forum, scheduled to take place from June 6-8 in St. Petersburg, during which a meeting with the President of Russia seems likely. This is in lieu of a meeting that was supposed to take place recently in Kazakhstan's Nur-Sultan but was canceled under strange circumstances. Official Yerevan had not confirmed as of yesterday that Pashinyan would travel to Russia, however, Peskov indicated, 'We are expecting the Prime Minister of Armenia.'
Alongside the mentioned statement from the Russian Prime Minister's spokesperson, rumors circulated that Aliyev would also be in St. Petersburg. This sparked discussions about the expectation not only of a Putin-Pashinyan meeting but also a subsequent Aliyev-Pashinyan meeting. According to another version, it may also take place in a trilateral format involving Putin, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.
Of course, there is reasoning behind these reports. It was anticipated that one of the main issues during the scheduled Putin-Pashinyan meeting in Nur-Sultan would be the Nagorno-Karabakh process.
Specifically, according to one of the circulating main versions, Pashinyan is expected to provide a final stance regarding the current mechanism for negotiation, which was recently revealed by the Minsk Group.
After that, Pashinyan announced that he sees a need for clarifications regarding this mechanism, and during the well-known meeting in Moscow in mid-April involving Lavrov, Mamedyarov, and Mnatsakanyan, it seems that such clarifications were provided.
