Quarantine Pest Found in Armenian Chili Peppers Imported to Russia
Employees of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia, known as "Rosselkhoznadzor," discovered a quarantine pest, the western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis Perg.), in a batch of fresh chili peppers imported from Armenia during an inspection at the "Moscow-Kargal" checkpoint in Khimki.
According to the report from vmo24.ru, the agency's press service stated that the quarantine object was detected during laboratory testing.
It is noted that measures will be taken in accordance with Russian phytosanitary legislation regarding the infected batch.
The western flower thrips is extremely dangerous and is found in 250 species of plants.
